![]() Besides things like line endings changed, there are also issues like certain effects and styles that are in InDesign do not translate well to Publisher, of course this is expected. Converting one document format to another does mean that everything is NOT going to convert/import perfectly. Well, after testing several various InDesign IDML files into Affinity Publisher, one thing I can certainly say is that while the importing actually does a pretty good job, no surprise that you will have to go through the document and do some cleaning up. I suggest to InDesign users to have both a IDML file and a PDF with bleeds (if any) just incase one works better than the other when being imported into Affinity Publisher. There you get a dialog box with options like which importing the whole document or only certain pages. Of course there is the option to import the PDF but to do that, you first need a PDF of the document, then in Affinity Publisher, go to File and Open. Once it opens up, you have a editable Publisher file which is faster than recreating the whole document. ![]() I found that depending on the file, the process actually move pretty fast, usually under a minute. To import IDML files into Affinity Publisher, open Publisher (1.8) and go to File and Open, select the IDML you wish to import into Affinity Publisher, then select Open. This is a huge step towards helping graphic designs import their InDesign files over to Publisher and possibly leave Adobe behind. BUT, the talk has to be that Affinity Publisher 1.8 can now import IDML files, Adobe InDesign backwards compatibility files. The updates are minor for Photo which now supports Adobe Photoshop's Smart Objects and Affinity Designer which includes the stock panel that was in Publisher and Photo. Serif has released the latest updates to its applications, Affinity Publisher, Affinity Photo, and Affinity Designer, their alternatives to Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator. ![]()
